The Curse(s) of Piracy

I have a whole mountain of boxed games waiting to be installed. It’s a pity but I just simply do not have the time to play games. I’m like a dragon hoarding boxes containing CDs.* =)

(*This dragon drinks coffee, not ichor, has gigantic eyebags, and is as lean as its progenitor, the ol’ tok`-ko. It also has a fondness for reef snorkeling and in fact it has, among its baubles, pictures of reefs and a dusty diving mask and snorkel. It plans to party again this summer.)

Each of those games costs $4.00 dollars. And (if I have the time) I can play them online.

Think about it, you and an opponent half a country away, doing the deadly dance of microing as both your armies slug it out in Gnoll Wood or you and your teammates coordinating in Tribes; your fellow Heavies pounding the entrance of the other team’s base as you in Light armor half a kilometer away snipes at their Medium troopers.

No amount of AI coding can give you the same degree of satisfaction as a well-planned base assault or beating that 13-year old God of Microing in a friendly RTS match.

Buy original games.

Consider the alternative: you can’t patch until you find a NoCD crack for that newest patch you are drooling over (your smug noobie friend’s fave imba race heavily nerfed!!), you can’t get the bumped up gloss effect your peers are showing off, and you’re stuck with deathmatches with lousy AI. (who don’t cuss at you when they get owned)

And omg, the prices! I once passed by a shady stall, and the prices for OLD games are double for what I pay for original ones! Are those SOBs nuts?

They are more expensive than original copies of 3-year old games!

The above was a rhetorical question, btw.

(Well, there are always the shady sites offering free downloads but that’s not the whole point of this rant.)

My friend just arrived from vacation and he saw an original boxed set of Battlefield 2145 being sold for only $28.00.

If only I could go there and buy myself one. I mean, that’s driving a mech AND shooting real people for only 28 bucks!

And what’s wrong with the major suppliers here in our region? They don’t have websites! Uhm, hello? Your profits could well go beyond quadruple if you just use the Internet. /Me foams.

To the major suppliers: get a virtual life! Create a website where we hillbillies —- =) —– can splurge our salaries on! Let the pros do it:

Sticky Media Solutions, Inc.

Or set up a branch here on our city and get help from companies like this San Diego management consulting company.

I mean that one’s from another country but you get the point.

We will buy.

Make money.

Give us catharsis.

We will shoot our bais bai!
